Saturday sewing...

It isn't often that I have the time (or is it a lack of courage?) to engage in this sweet craft on my own [apart from my teacher's availability during our Tuesday-sew-nights].

But recently, I actually made the time, and mustered enough courage, to put my skills to the test.

(I found & watched some tutorials earlier in the day and went for it based on those... It worked all right, but there were some 'issues' with my seam allowances and the width of the flap being more than the body once it was hemmed... [ugh] I would show you an interior picture, but it was just too messy; I'd rather solve the problem and then post the redo. :)

Speaking of redos...

I did keep going long enough to get started on my second try...

It was fun to finally play a little and have to figure some things out for myself!

Can't say it's better than having a teacher nearby though. ;)

*Addendum: I updated the sewing projects album :)

Sew Impressed...

adventures in sewing is right...

This girl --my friend Mary of Pin.Sew.Press.-- has some excellent sewing adventures under her belt, and many more to come, to be sure!

Very different from my own, I might add, but I kind of love that part...

I want to try this pleated tote based on Mary's recommendations in her guest-blogger appearance on Come and See the Seitz! :)

Thanks, Mary!
You're a creative inspiration!!

Curtains (a one-night sewing project!!)

We've been wanting curtains for the bedroom for, well, about 5 months now....

And finally, the stars aligned this week and I was able to pull it off! :)

They're just tacked up for the time being because I couldn't resist! :)

Hopefully I'll get the rod and officially install them this weekend! ♥

Another dress project...

Yay for project #7 being done!! :)

A few things I learned while working on this one...

*little progress is better than no progress

*my fetish for thin/delicate materials constantly creates more work, but I have consistently liked the outcome, so I guess it's worth it!

*it is quite rewarding to make something out of 'nothing'!!

Craft Hope

Just came across this sweet treasure in the craft section at work...

A book of craft patterns with a charity to go with each one.
Simply Brilliant.

Several cute, practical projects I'd love to create and donate!!

sewing update...

Project #12: African Baby Sling

I finished this a few weeks ago and gave it to my dear friend Jill. She was excited to get a homemade maya wrap for Baby Girl #3... of course that made my day! :)

I'm currently back to working on Project #7: the Paisley Dress that I started in October of last year.

This guy took a back seat right about the time we started the bridesmaids' dresses...

thank goodness we only had 3 to make...

I thought they turned out wonderful.
I loved them, and I think the girls did too. :)

Decided to make an album of my projects so I could have them all in one place... Unfortunately I took most of the pictures with the camera phone... maybe one of these days I'll update with new ones, but for now at least they're documented :)

the dresses are done!!!! (Th.3.11)

thanks to Joan our sewing teacher extraordinaire
the bridesmaids dresses are FINISHED!!!!! :)

all we had left to do this week was
put in the zipper & attach the lining on two
a little zig zagging in one...
and hem all three...

now all that's needed is a little steaming to get the wrinkles out!!!

shew! that's a load off!!

can't wait to see the girls in these dresses! ♥

project #7.. (Mon.10.26)

the beginning of another dress..

important difference: the pattern for this one is labeled 'easy' :)

..i tend to make myself feel guilty for continuing to choose projects for myself -maybe because i'm genuinely looking forward to making gifts..

but i'm not there yet, so for now, i'm going to indulge and let myself enjoy practicing on myself..

sewing project #5... (Thurs.7.2)

coming along...

a great project it's been, stretched out over many many weeks.. Thursday night I hand-stitched the inside seem... a little monotonous, but thankfully put me closer to the goal of finishing it up! <3

our pledge.. (Thurs.5.21.09)

TMP banner for graduation night.

I gave it a loop at the top so it can be hung.. and the bottom a seam and trim.. fun when my learning goes beyond making things for myself!

(just for the record, I'm counting this as sewing project #4:)

aspiration met.. (Thurs.5.14.09)

I was so excited about my latest sewing project that I had to come home and try them on!

When I first got my sewing machine (at least 4 1/2 years ago, maybe more) -pajama pants were my first aspiration! ...and now they're complete!! :)

..AND, I get to check it off my 29 before thirty list (#2)!! ..woo hoo! ...another one down.. mmm, lots more to go!
