Character

(summer 2010 with little D)
The best movie I saw this year was The Help.

My favorite character in the movie was the reporter/ writer/ liberator who used her skills and assets for the good of the oppressed.

She was not trying to be a saint. She was not trying to be heard. She was not trying to make a name for herself.

She was a listener, a lover, a friend, and a catalyst for freedom.

She spoke up for those who had no voice.

She spent her time on behalf of the poor and oppressed.

And though it was not without opposition, critiscism, or great sacrifice, she leveraged all she had to do something that mattered.

Boring stuff...

In the movie UP there's a part (several actually) that bring me to tears every time.

Especially when the boy scout tells Mr. Fredrickson about his busy dad and his fondest memories of eating ice cream and counting cars. He says, It may sound boring, but, the boring stuff is what I remember most.

The 'boring stuff' is my favorite too.

Columbia weekend...

We just enjoyed our second annual Floyd-family weekend thanks to my husband's attendance at the Converge SE conference...

We played ball in the house, swam, and snuggled the sweet Floyd boys in the mornings [while being served coffee & breakfast!!]...

I was also able to work on a Naptime Diaries' family photo-shoot!!

Quite the honor capturing this lovely fam!!
...I posted a few more pics on my new Photog page! ♥

Aaaand we watched the very informative, absolutely life-changing Food Inc. before heading home yesterday!!!

If you eat, ever, I recommend you watch it too. It's that important! Seriously.
(It's on Netflix and quite possibly at your favorite local library!!)

sunday night thoughts... (aka: weekend recap)

thankful for these days...

I kind of have a head full and would just like to unload a little...

*took some pics for the Photography class today. awesome. loved it more than I imagined. even froze my fingers and nose off just to keep shooting outside for a while. (my goal/assignment was 12 items two different ways.) I made it to 6 items plus a few excursion photo shoots of the cat, sunset, and then the fridge... yep, even the fridge captivated me for a bit! ...enjoyed it though. big time. here's a pic from the teacher's page... i spent some time checking out the site and photo portfolios tonight. some really great work. particularly liked this one though.

*got to spend a little downtime (taco soup & football) downstairs with the fam tonight. nice to get to hang with them so much. love that they invite us to eat so often. [for a while I was feeling pretty slack cooking so little, but I've since embraced it and decided to just enjoy theses moments!] ♥

*visited christ community church this morning. in honor of their first anniversary, freedom readers' founder Tracy Bailey was given the full service time to celebrate, inspire, and challenge us all to live an impactful life. it was awesome. she told the story of ezekiel and the dry bones. mmmm. definitely inspired... and just in time. 5 weekdays off in a row. welcome, dream-time... (my prayers for this week: vision, courage, ACTION, wisdom, & sweet continued guidance.)

*Jeremy played at fresh brewed last night.. with Doug. also awesome. they did a sweet little worship set. loved every minute of it.

(camera-phone pic:)

*In the spirit of the weekend recap: Friday night we enjoyed another a Redbox movie date night-- Wall Streetnot that great. except the couch-time part; always my favorite! the movie was all right really, just not what we expected.

*I've got some blog ideas that will hopefully develop soon.... a flashlight story, one inspired by claire's water blog post What Breaks Your Heart?, and another one inspired by this sweet author/blogger ann voskamp.

that's all for now. sleep time. yay.
happy dreaming! ♥

Redbox movie datenight... (Fri.6/11)

The new Alice in Wonderland was pretty fantastic.

Stranger than I remember the original, but great.

My favorite aspect was that
although she technically was the 'right Alice'...
she had to sort of become Alice that could/would
slay the dragon and save the day!

I like it when he tells her she'd lost her 'muchness'

I sure can identify with that!
Sometimes I feel like I go seasons without a whole lot of muchness... maybe that's why Romans 5 was written!
...we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope... (Rom. 5:3&4)

Maybe we gain 'muchness' by being in over our head a time or two... and if/when we persevere, that's when the reward comes...

Another thing I liked about the movie was how her father used to say he would sometimes 'believe in five impossible things before breakfast' ....I want to think that through some more. I think I might need to practice some of that in my own life too.

low-key {movie} night..(Mon.8.17)

Anna's kitty had kittens...

..nice low-key night tonight after working all day (the girls had a busy one at Freestyle Music Park.. so glad they loved it there! -airbrush tattoos and all- :)

..decided instead of venturing to Broadway we'd do a 10:00 movie instead.. The Time-Traveler's Wife for Rosey since she read it & was dieing to see it... crazy story. didn't love it. loved going with K & R though.. and was happily surprised at the $7 movie price.. (thought it was going to be $9:).. made for a late night, but again, more than worth it!
